Position Summary

Position is responsible for ensuring employee safety throughout the plant network by providing support and direction for programs and policies that control, eliminate, and prevent workplace injury caused by physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and other factors. Position will make decisions to manage employee safety and security risks across the plant network, and to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements that apply to employee safety. The role requires a leader who will guide and develop all safety talent, and promote a positive, productive, and effective work environment.

 

Requires constant interaction with work group and other departments at the primary work location.

 

Position requires demonstration of competency for all on-the-job activities that may have a direct or indirect affect on product safety, legality and/or quality.

 

Position Responsibilities / Major Duties

  • Develops and implements all Flowers Foods safety systems, policies and procedures, safety campaigns, and programs to eliminate, prevent or control hazards, acts or behaviors.
  • Ensures compliance and continued adherence with company safety policies and all federal, agency (OSHA), state, and local regulatory requirements, and identify process safety improvement opportunities.
  • Establish, monitor and evaluate key performance indicators. Identify and implement best practices and procedures to align with business objectives/strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure the adequate assessment, prevention and management of Health & Safety issues and risks arising from operations, incidents, company service lines, including inspecting, assessing, monitoring, investigating, and recommending corrective action.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct assessments, inspections and audits to monitor compliance with Health & Safety protocols and company requirements; Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are completed; Establish and enable processes to enhance corporate and operational capabilities for increased self-governance.
  • Establish and maintain external relationships with key regulatory authorities at the local, state and federal levels. Participate in relevant external Health & Safety professional business and industry organizations.
  • Develop Health & Safety team, ensuring that their technical capabilities and leadership performance meets expectations and needs of the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures (EEO, Sexual Harassment, Sarbanes - Oxley, Safety, etc.)

  • Performs other duties which are deemed to be an integral part of the position, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures.

 

Desired Experience

1O+ years' experience in safety and risk management program implementation

 

Desired Education

Bachelor's  degree  is required. Master's Degree in Safety / Risk Management / Engineering or Technical field is preferred

Advanced Certification in a Safey and/or Industrial Hygiene related field.

CSP, CIH, PE preferred
