The Training Specialist, focused in the production area, will be responsible for the following job duties in a commercial wholesale bakery: train operators to proficiency, ensure competency through demonstrations, maintain training records in an online learning management system. Constantly adjust efforts based on the needs of the business.

Rising to the Challenge: Position Responsibilities

• There are 4 main operations the Training Specialist will juggle depending on the needs of the business:

  • Conduct demonstrations for all position proficiencies. i.e. lowing the mixing bowl lid, turning ON the oven, setting the box size for case packing, etc.…
  • Enter records into the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Orient new hires to their new position and expectations
  • Redirect trainer focus based on Gap Analysis

• Abide by OJT principles (adult learning principles, chunking information, one best way, 4-step method, etc.).
• Responsible for following lesson plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) during training
• Accountable for maintaining and updating the SOPs and other reference materials
• Assist as a member of a safety or continuous improvement team
• Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the food safety and food quality system.
• Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.
• Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party audits.
• Responsible for working safe and taking personal accountability for your own safety and safety of others. Follow and train company Master Safety Rules and other safety rules developed through safety incident learnings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knead to Know: Preferred Qualifications

• Will receive on the job training
• Background in training/development a plus
• Regular, consistent attendance
• Able to effectively communicate and work with all employees
• Thorough understanding of training and development philosophies and methodologies
• Tactful conflict resolution
• Medium to High computer skills including knowledge of Office products
• Basic mathematical skills in weights, temperatures, times and general numbers
• Working holidays and weekends as required. Canyon Bakehouse plans schedules to avoid working holidays and weekends, however is dependent on customer demand and volume.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English is an essential function of the job. Training materials, SQF Standards and other business-related documents are all written in English; and all business/staff and training meetings; 1:1 meeting between management and staff (formal and informal), and on-the-job work direction/instruction are conducted in English.
