Facilities Mechanic

Support all sophisticated facets of the facility and production operations to insure continuous and accurate processing.  Monitor and maintain daily operations of specific duties assigned by Departmental Manager. Maintain integrity of all maintenance sophisticated testing and control equipment.  Maintain and upgrade part inventories by interfacing with department personnel and Parts/Purchasing Clerks.  Assist Project Engineer and Maintenance Managers with capital and non-capital improvements as required.  Respond to all plant emergencies. Interface with service personnel and contractors to ensure quality workmanship.  Performs all work in a professional and efficient manner working independently without direct supervision.  Must be a self-starter possessing excellent organizational and communicational skills and ability to accept principal responsibility to coordinate and maintain departmental activities.  Must maintain non-disciplinary status with regard to job performance and attendance record.  Ability to accept position responsibility and empowerment and be able to efficiently perform the functions of the job with minimal supervision required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.  Must be able to demonstrate ability and willingness to work within and contribute to a team environment.  Willing to work flexible hours, shifts, overtime and weekends.  Candidate must possess and maintain current 

Job Responsibilities

•    Operates and maintains all boilers, engine room equipment, wastewater equipment, HVAC equipment and associated plant support equipment.
•    Lubricates all boiler, engine room and wastewater equipment. 
•    May fire boilers as needed to maintain production and meet all legal requirements.
•    Secure or put into service any part of sprinkler, steam, fuel, bulk pump, refrigeration, gas, air handling, hot and cold-water systems in the entire bakery.
•    Takes tests and administers boiler feed water treatment and controls.
•    Takes tests and administers wastewater treatment and controls.
•    Practices preventative maintenance by replacing worn or defective parts with items obtained from stock or by fabrication before they break or damage the product or the machine. 
•    Packs pumps, glands, rebuilds valves, pumps, etc.
•    Responds to and corrects equipment boiler and engine room equipment breakdown.
•    Repairs/replaces worn/defective parts, devices, etc. 
•    Performs building related repairs, upkeep and jobs throughout the entire plant including but not limited to walls, ceiling, flooring and concrete, doors, windows, painting, etc 
•    May supervise the work of helpers and apprentices on assignment.
•    Operates Powered Industrial Equipment as required. Able to obtain / maintain certification to operate powered industrial equipment including forklift, scissor lift and boom. 
•    Maintains cleanliness of work area.
•    Orders supplies as needed to maintain equipment standards.
•    Works with and coordinates outside vendors as required.
•    Runs, inspects, adjusts and repairs, if necessary, all support equipment prior to and during production run.
•    Completes work orders as assigned.
•    Completes daily work cards and other paperwork, documenting work activities and man hours. 
•    Works with blueprints, drawings, layout, or written or verbal instructions.  
•    Makes standard shop computations relating to stress, strength of materials, centers of gravity, direction, rotation, speeds, etc.
•    Operates machine shop equipment and makes required parts when necessary.
•    Performance of other duties which are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures.
•    Practice and comply with all Company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, Sarbanes Oxley, etc.)
•    Follows established Company Policies & Procedures, Sanitary Codes, and Safety Requirements. 
•    Other duties as assigned. 

Desired Experience

•    At least three (3) years’ experience involving boiler, HVAC, air handling, refrigeration and engine room equipment.
•    Four (4) year Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent preferred but may be substituted with work experience.
•    Must possess and maintain current Engineer Grade A license recognized in the city of Philadelphia (annual renewal).
•    Must possess and maintain current EPA certification (universal).


Analytical Skills:  
•    Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical problems quickly. Requires high degree of initiative to see need for and take independent action.
 Control Skills:  
•    Ability to work without direct supervision.
 Communication Skills:  
•    Ability to communicate with vendors, production employees and management to solve and prevent mechanical problems.
 Physical Requirements:  
•    MOBILITY- Ability to move to all production areas of the plant.
Physical ability to stand and perform work for a full shift on a daily basis.
Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders 
Ability to stop and bend while lifting weights up to fifty (50) pounds.
Ability to climb onto and crawl under machinery as required.
Heavy work exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force. 
SENSORY- Ability to view the product at all workstations and determine adherence to quality Control standards (size, shape, color, cut, etc.).
Ability to distinguish color-coded equipment, operating controls, labels, alarms, and signs.
Ability to hear and distinguish audible alarms.
The hearing, vision, and smell faculties sufficient to detect malfunctions in applicable equipment.
COMMUNICATION- Must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend written instruction and record information applicable to the position.. 
Ability to read, comprehend and practice necessary safety procedures, signs, etc.
Ability to wear and use approved, applicable safety equipment, as needed.
Ability to research, ascertain, develop, implement, and monitor required policies and procedures.
Ability to work in extreme heat.

Desired Education

•    High School Diploma or GED required.
