Director of Product Development - Cake

Summary

  Oversee and direct the successful development of new products in partnership with sales/marketing, upper management, or specific customers.  Improve quality and/or shelf life of existing products. Evaluate alternative ingredient suppliers as requested to reduce cost and to meet or exceed established performance specifications. 

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•    In-lab formula evaluation of new product still in development stages.
•    In-lab formula evaluation of existing products where quality, shelf life improvement, or cost reduction is desired.
•    Coordinate the scheduling of plant tests (i.e. sending formulas, ensuring acquisition of unique ingredients and their necessary documentation)
•    Develop formulas and ingredient specifications for nutritional labeling and ingredient dec developments, as well as for costing purposes.
•    Conduct shelf life evaluations of products that are in development or may be going through an improvement effort.   Leads troubleshooting in the plants in partnership with operations and quality
•    Practice and comply with all Company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, Sarbanes Oxley, etc.)
•    Perform other duties which are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures.
•    Manages team of food technologists and technicians.  Ensures team meets annual objectives and has robust career development plans.
•    Creates new best practices to drive better efficiency and profitability within the Cake business

Desired Experience

5 – 7 years of progressively responsible research and development experience. Previous experience in bakery production areas.

Desired Education

Bachelor’s degree in bakery science or related field is required.
